HAIR BRAIDING 

Course Goals: The basic braiding course is a training program that is a complete study of all areas of hair braiding and procedures as it relates to natural hair and braiding.

Objective: This curriculum covers the current methods for student to obtain licensure after completion.

I. Orientation of Basic Training - 35 Hours (20 hours theory/ 15 hours practical) 

1) History of Braiding

2) Infection Control

3) Disinfection and Sanitation

4) Bacteriology

5) Personal Hygiene, Public Health

6) Professional Ethics

7) Anatomy and Physiology

8) Disorders and Diseases

II. Tools and Related Concepts - 35 Hours (20 hours theory/15 hours practical) 

1) Tools and Equipment

2) Basic Styling Knowledge

3) Client Consultation and Face Shapes

4) Growth Patterns

5) Braid Removal and Scalp Care

6) Styles and Sectioning

7) Client education, pre -care, post care, home care, and follow up services.

III. Practices and Procedures - 200 hours (40 hours theory/160 hours practical) 

1) Single Braids With and Without Extensions

2) Cornrows With and Without Extensions

3) Twist and Knots

4) Multiple Strands

5) Weaving/Sewn-in

6) Comb and 2-strand Twisting

7) Roller and Hair Styling Services

8) Product Knowledge Relating to Hair Braiding

9) Other Procedures as it Relates to Hair Braiding

10) Blow-Drying

11) Thermal Heat

12) Hair Dressing and Thermal Curling

IV. Business Practices - 30 hours (30 hours theory)

1) Salon Management

2) Human Relations and Salesmanship

3) Workers Compensation Act
